I was lucky enough to see this place before it recently met its final demise. It is now demolished. I recently tried to make a return trip here on one of my last visits to LA, and it was gone. I was shocked. This place was so huge and massive. This place is the Southern Pacific Railways Taylor Yard Railshop. This facility housed buildings and equipment for for servicing and repairing locomotives. As with every place I go, there is always a history to the site. Walking around inside was really a trip. I didn’t get as many shots as I would have liked to on my only trip there as I was hindered tripod-less. I’m still glad I was able to see it. Robk700, Cam, Office ninja and myself all made this trek.
This place started out in the early 1920’s and continued from there and didn’t cease operations there until 2003. Over the years the place expanded and constructed new facilities on site to handle the locomotive repair work. These shots were taken inside of the biggest building on-site. With active 24hr security and the lights still being on, we made our way through this place quick.
Ill include some links at the bottom that include articles that LA Locals have written about the place.
